Leigh Gerson of Mt. Airy was one of 10 Germantown Friends School (GFS) students who recently teamed
up with Peachtree & Ward president Jon Weinrott to bake a whopping 52 pies. The pies were destined
for the school's annual pie drive, which produces hundreds of pies around the Thanksgiving holiday
to donate to area soup kitchens, shelters and churches. The GFS students took over the kitchen at
Peachtree & Ward, one of the area's top caterers, in Willow Grove. They spent the afternoon rolling
60 pounds of dough, peeling and slicing six bushels of apples and preparing pumpkin pie filling for
30 pumpkin and 22 Mile High apple pies.
