' Lauren & Steve: June 7, Malvern, Pennsylvania'

Fall/Winter 2004-2005 - Edited from The Knot, By Kathleen Murray
After booking a space and canceling twice because no venue felt just right, Lauren Feldsher and Steve Pilgrim, both 30, decided to host their celebration at Steve's parents' home in eastern Pennsylvania. 'After that, everything fell into place,' the relieved bride says.

A modern motif inspired the outdoor Asian-themed wedding. 'I just love all things Asian-food, design everything,' says Lauren, an aspiring chef, who married a TV and film editor. The invitations combined a clean look with a fresh color combination- bright red with green floral icons Ð to set the day's vibrant tone. Pink and white peonies lushly covered the huppah for the Jewish and Christian ceremony, while unique, simple, and compact arrangements blended orange, pink, and purple roses, purple orchids and hot-pink peonies. 'We had lots of peonies,' she says.

Floating flowers didn't make it to the pool, though. Rain exploded from the unpredictable summer skies, moving the party to an emergency weather tent (or 'oxygen tent,' as the newlyweds laughingly refer to it). Fortunately, exquisite decorations breathed life into the cozy space. White and red Chinese lanterns hung from the ceiling. Chic cubism shaped the table settings - square plates, square glassware and square orange and pink silk dupioni napkins adorned the square tables. Even the lemon butter cake filled with Grand Marnier butter-cream *and decked with roses and the ever-present pink peonies) got the four-sided treatment.

Before indulging in the multi-tier delicacy, the 160 guests were treated to a gourmet feast of ahi tuna tartar parfait with wasabi tobiko vinaigrette, crepes filled with wild mushrooms, and sesame-crusted filet mignon with orange-soy glaze and wasabi mashed potatoes. Chocolate sushi- coconut and fruit rolled into chocolate sheets and cut like Japanese hand rolls - completed the amazing Asian-inspired meal.

Conceivably, leftovers could be stored in the striking wedding favors: Chinese take-out boxes. Inside, colorful fortune cookies contained such lighthearted custom messages as 'You like cake' and 'If your feet don't hurt you haven't danced enough.' Toward the end of the day, the optimistic band played the Beatles' 'Here Comes the Sun.' Sadly, the sun failed to appear but the party never stopped dancing in the rain.
