They Serve - In More Ways Than One
Restaurants and Caterers Do Their Part For Charity.
As seen in the Philadelphia Inquirer
For 10 years, Peachtree & Ward has catered for up to 1000 guests at the Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis Center gala, donating a portion of the proceeds back to the tennis association.

But with so many requests to contribute food and staff to charity, Jon Weinrott, Peachtree's president, prefers to decide in January which charities the firm will back for the upcoming year.

"We support charities that respond to our personal needs," {wife} Lori and mine, "the needs of our employees, and of our clients. In the past we have given extensive support to AMFAR, an AIDS research organization, and to Manna."

"One Valentine's Day we prepared and delivered meals to over 300 people homebound with HIV/AIDS. Our kitchen and office staffs worked with the Manna employees and volunteers, and then went to deliver the food."

"Last year, we donated a cocktail reception for over 200 people for the Thorncroft Therapeutic Riding Academy in Malvern. They teach riding to kids and adults with disabilities. In exchange, for our donation, one young boy received a scholarship to ride there once a week for a year."

"This coming year, we will participate in a tour of Chestnut Hill gardens sponsored by the Shipley School."

"But as a rule," the caterer said, "he doesn't make food donations to Philabundance or the Greater Philadelphia Food Bank for the simple reason that his purchasing is job specific."

"Leftovers are either left with the client," Weinrott said, "or, if the food has been out in the air for too long, it is discarded."
